stayed silent in your grief?

Suicide
is a growing public health concern that’s difficult to talk
about. Unless we start talking about it, people will continue
to live in the silence, shame and heartbreak that often occurs
after a suicide. In recognition of Mental Health Month, COFAMH
and NAMI-NC have organized this annual public
gathering to talk about suicide. Opening up and
speaking out helps healing, and can help others when they, too,
loose all hope in life.

For
most people diagnosed with severe mental illness, their first
episode occurs in their late teens or early twenties. This documentary
explores the “first break” of three young adults and
their families. Simon is a college student when he begins experiencing
the symptoms of schizophrenia. A young woman struggles with depression
as she attempts to balance independence with the need for support
from her family and a single mother experiences a severe manic
episode.
